Governor Kathy Hochul has set Feb. 13 as the date for the special election to replace former Representative George Santos. The election, required by state law to take place within 70 to 80 days of expulsion, will see two candidates chosen by the state parties face off to determine whether the Democrats can flip the seat or whether the Republicans will see their slim majority in Congress reduced further.

No candidates have been announced yet from either side, although the Democrats are expected to declare their candidate later this week. In the meantime, the constituent services of Santos' former office will be managed by House Clerk Kevin McCumber, until Santos' successor is elected.
