Running a mile to help Kulanu

Cedarhurst-based Kulanu Academy held its inaugural Kulanu Mile event at North Woodmere Park on Sept. 21. It consisted of a USA Tack & Field 1-mile judged race walk, a non-competitive run/walk and a Fun Run for children.

Traffic was slowed and stopped on Broadway in Woodmere last Friday as a 150-foot-tall crane lifted a cupola tower and its copper top into place at the peak of the Woodmere Education Center, 70 feet above the street.

Inwood Country Club hosts Kids’ Tennis Festival

Inwood Country Club opened up ten of its tennis courts to members of the Inwood community as 300 children, parents and volunteers attended the first ever Kids’ Tennis Festival, hosted by The Inwood Charities Fund Inc. along with the USTA Eastern/Long Island Region.
Volunteers and guests included the Baldwin High School Girls Varsity Tennis Team, Lynbrook High School Girls Varsity Tennis Team, and tennis professionals from the Inwood Country Club.

Reunion celebrates old school and young scholars

Seven Lawrence High School graduates received scholarships totaling $2,000 and scores of former students from the Trade School reunited at the annual reunion held on the grounds of the Five Towns Community Center in Lawrence on July 26, where the trade school was located.

More than 460 children from Cedarhurst, Inwood, Lawrence, Woodmere, Valley Stream, Rockville Centre, Island Park, Long Beach, Elmont, Freeport, Uniondale, Hempstead and Roosevelt shopped for clothes and school supplies at the second annual Back 2 School Store sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women, Peninsula and South Shore sections.
