Charmise Desiré elected to Area 11 director position by the New York State School Boards Association

The Uniondale School District is thrilled that the New York State School Boards Association has announced that Charmise Desiré, a dedicated member of the Uniondale Board of Education, has been elected as the Area 11 director on its board of directors. Desiré's election marks a significant achievement, and she will serve a two-year term, commencing on Jan. 1, 2024, and concluding on Dec. 31, 2025.

“Desiré's selection as the Area 11 director is a testament to her commitment to educational excellence and her outstanding contributions to the Uniondale School Board," said Superintendent Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil. "Her passion for promoting quality education and advocating for the needs of students, parents and educators has garnered widespread support, making her a natural choice for this vital leadership role."

Desiré will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of NYSSBA's policies and initiatives, focusing on the diverse educational landscape within her district. Her responsibilities will include representing the interests of her constituents, collaborating with fellow board members, and working diligently to improve educational opportunities for all New York State students.

Desiré's election also coincides with the conclusion of B.A. Schoen's term; Schoen has chosen not to seek reelection. The Uniondale Board of Education extends its gratitude to B.A. Schoen for dedicated service and invaluable contributions to the NYSSBA Board of Directors. The Uniondale board members are confident that Desiré will continue to build on the legacy of her predecessor while bringing fresh insights and perspectives to the board.
