Lynbrook junior firefighters learn the ropes of fire training

The Lynbrook Fire Department’s Training Committee took its junior firefighters through a rope rescue drill off the roof of the Firefighters Training Center at the end of Wright Avenue on Nov.1

The juniors were introduced to the escape rope, which is worn by firefighters to lower themselves if necessary from a burning building. Truck Company’s bucket truck was used to show the juniors how the ropes support the weight of a firefighter.

Although some juniors expressed some fear of heights, they all seemed to enjoy the thrill of then being lowered down the side of the training building. The juniors meet two Sundays each month at Fire Headquarters.
