The Freeport Memorial Library and Recreation Center are offering Tai chi classes throughout the spring months. The library’s classes started on Feb. 7 and the Recreation Center’s classes will start on Feb. 14 at 11 a.m.
Tai chi is an ancient Chinese soft form of martial arts. The workout is known for its health and spiritual benefits. It’s generally a gentle, slow-paced and noncompetitive workout.
Each posture, in Tai chi, flows into the next pose without pause to ensure the body is constant movement. Because of its slow motion and low impact, the exercise, though safe for all ages and fitness levels, is popular amongst older adults and pregnant women.
