The community had a chance to learn about the Rockville Centre School District’s plan to bring students back into classrooms full time at a reopening forum last week at South Side High School. For the past 25 years, the Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been a widely anticipated event in the community, an exuberant celebration known for its charitable outreach as well. With the continuing pandemic preventing a large gathering for a second year, the “parade that shares and cares” has found a new way to give back. Josie Howard was proud of her hometown, and spent her life helping others in the Rockville Centre community, whether it was improving their quality of life through her roles on the village’s planning and zoning boards, or saving lives as a volunteer firefighter. The mother of five and grandmother of four died Feb. 18 after a battle with Covid-19 and pneumonia. She was 64. more

But, like most weddings planned for the spring and summer of 2020, the former Rockville Centre resident and her now husband, Brendan Keating, had to shift gears and come up with a new plan due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. more

When members of the men’s Catholic fraternity saw long lines leading up to The Experience Vineyard Church on Merrick Road, they saw another challenge to take on: local families struggling to put food on the table. more

After about a month of trying to secure a date for the Covid-19 vaccination, residents and staff at Maple Pointe Assisted Living in Rockville Centre were finally inoculated on Monday. A clinic was set up at the facility by CVS Pharmacy, which administered the vaccine. more
