Final pretrial conference date set for former Congressman George Santos

After being ousted from office with only 11 months of tenure as the representative for New York’s 3rd Congressional District, George Santos continues to stay in the limelight as his legal procedures move forward. He currently faces charges of alleged identity theft, wire fraud, campaign violations and other crimes. If Santos is convicted of the primary charges, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

While walking to the U.S. District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday for a status conference, Santos fiddled with the silver watch on his left wrist. Wearing a black turtleneck under his navy suit, his expression remained stoic. The only words heard uttered by Santos in the courtroom were “Yes, your honor,” and, “No, your honor,” in response to Judge Joanna Seybert.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office released 6,000 additional pages of material to Santos’ legal team on Tuesday, and said that it would continue to produce discoverable material on a rolling basis.

The disgraced congressman was seen with two new attorneys he recently hired to join his legal team — Andrew Mancilla and Robert Fantone, of the firm Mancilla and Fantone LLP, a Manhattan law firm that handles criminal cases representing individuals charged with money laundering, insurance fraud, tax evasion, murder and other charges as well as commercial matters such as business disputes including fraud, theft of trade secrets.

The final pretrial conference was moved to Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m., agreed upon by Santos’ legal team and the prosecution.
