Celebrating Year of the Dragon at Fayette School in North Merrick

Posted

The Lunar New Year kicked off to a grand start at Harold D. Fayette School in the North Merrick School District as third graders participated in a cheerful parade on Feb. 9.

Classes lined the halls on the first floor and waited in anticipation for the parade to begin. Cheers rang out as third graders turned the corner off the stairs to greet the parade goers, adorned in the colors traditionally associated with the Lunar New Year. As it’s the Year of the Dragon, dragon-themed masks and props were the eye-catching subjects of the parade. Building up to the parade, third graders learned all about the holiday, including the Chinese traditions, food and symbols that define the Lunar New Year.
