Hailey Velasquez receives the Jim Adelis Good Samaritan scholarship award

East Rockaway School District congratulates high school senior Hailey Velasquez on being recognized with the Jim Adelis Good Samaritan Scholarship Award.

This recognition is a testament to Velasquez’ selfless acts of kindness that have a positive impact on others and inspire the community.

This scholarship award was formed to mark the 20th anniversary of “Trees for Troops”, which is an organization — launched in 2003 — that sends Christmas trees to troops deployed throughout the world. “Trees for Troops” was founded by Jim Adelis, an East Rockaway resident and community leader, who dedicated his life to philanthropic causes. Throughout his life, Adelis spearheaded many initiatives to support members of the armed forces and was a mentor and friend to many in the East Rockaway community.
