The Long Island Arts Council at Freeport is proud to announce its fourth installment of the popular “Author Talks” series, scheduled for Nov 6, at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Freeport Recreation Center at 130 E Merrick Road and promises an engaging evening focused on powerful and provocative books written for young readers.

The “Author Talks” program, which is free and open to the public, continues its mission of supporting local Long Island authors and showcasing the rich diversity of literature created by talented neighbors and friends.

Two notable authors, Zach Downing and Jason Edwards, specializing in Young Adult and Children’s literature, will take center stage during the event. Downing, an Amazon best-selling novelist, gained recognition in the coming-of-age genre with his debut novel, “Flounder,” which was published in 2022. This year, he unveiled his second novel, “Manhattan to Montauk.”

Edwards, an award-winning author with over three decades of experience in developing innovative educational programs, will join Downing on stage. Edwards is known for his books, including “Will Allen and the Terrible Truth” and “Chronicles of the Monster Detective Agency: Initiations.”

The program will be moderated by Donna Rosenblum, who recently retired from Nassau BOCES as the Supervisor of School Library System Services. With more than 33 years of experience in education, Rosenblum currently leads educational workshops at the Nassau County Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center and serves as the President of the Merrick Library Board.

This “Author Talks” event promises to be an enlightening and inspiring evening for all attendees, providing valuable insights into the world of young reader literature and the authors behind these powerful and provocative works. Mark your calendars for this engaging literary experience.
