Two men allegedly scam $239K from 70-year-old Elmont man

Nassau County Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying two men who allegedly scammed $239,500 from a 70-year-old Elmont resident.

Two men allegedly approached the 70-year-old man’s house in Elmont on Nov. 30 and said they were masonry workers who would be willing to perform construction on his house that needed repairs. The 70-year-old man accepted their offer, and over the next two months the two men repeatedly returned.

According to police, the two men would say they found more damages in need of repair each time they returned and required money deposits for “planned future work.” The 70-year-old man paid them $239,500 throughout the duration of their visits to his house for work that was never completed. He notified police on Feb. 6 after he suspected that he was being scammed. The investigation is ongoing.

Police describe one of the men to be a 5’9” white man with a stocky build who is approximately 50 to 60 years old.

The other man is described as a 6’1” white man with a thin build who is approximately 30 to 40 years old. He is said to have short brown hair, a beard and a light complexion, according to police.
