In honor of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month and STAND UP for Others Week, Steele Elementary School welcomed special guests from Soren Bennick Productions to talk about the “Power of One.”
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade learned about physical, verbal, as well as cyber bullying and what it means to be an “upstander” instead of a bystander, school representatives said. They also learned the steps to help prevent bullying: 1. Identify if it’s bullying: intentional, purposeful, repeated; 2. Tell the bully to stop; 3. If the bully does not stop, find a trustworthy adult; 4. Follow-up with that adult to ensure that the bullying stops. The event culminated with students taking the anti-bullying pledge.
