The National Council of Jewish Women-Peninsula Section met on Feb. 11 at the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Center to discuss topics related to Jewish life around the world. Dr. Joan Lurie Goldberg lead the discussion, which focused on the controversial topic of relations between several Middle East counties and Israel. Goldberg is a co-founder of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency: Stop Teaching Hate Caucus, which aims to eliminates books from teachings that involve hate speech, incitement of violence, martyrdom and jihad, and anti-Israel and anti-Semitic rhetoric.

Many of the 30,000 teachers in these schools are said to be tied to Hamas, a known terrorist group. The UNRWA believes that peace can be achieved between both sides when these Middle Eastern countries halt the negative teaching and seek to find common ground with the Jewish state.
