‘Dancing with the Stars’ at the PCC’s The Club

Music, dancing and the camaraderie of being with family and friends made the “Dancing with the Stars” event sponsored by The Club a success. The Club is a day program for people with cognitive, physical and emotional frailty that is run under the auspices of Peninsula Counseling Center.

Partnered with family, staff or health care aides, Club members danced to the beat of familiar tunes provided by Ronald Doster. Three dance contest judges, Al Keller, Jim Hawkins and Ron Crisci, appraised the dancers on their agility, rhythm and creative interpretation.

Mildred Schneider and her dance partner Marie were declared the contest’s winners and received a trophy. However, the day could also be measured in the joy it brought to Club members. “My mom was so excited about today, I just wanted to be here to share it with her,” Bill Spigonardo said.

Funded by federal, state and county money, The Club is a two-day a week program from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Women meet on Mondays and Wednesdays and men meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Discussion groups, sing-alongs, sports and other recreational programs are geared to keep members active and stimulated.
