Nearly $1,000 was raised for Tavi & Friends, a local nonprofit animal rescue group, at Fido Fitness Club’s grand opening celebration and adopt-a-thon in Woodmere last weekend.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was presided over by Town of Hempstead Councilmen Jim Darcy and Anthony J. Santino. More than 200 people attended the two-day event hosted by co- owners Evelyn Franklin and Ellen Adler, who also owns the Barrie Inn, a cage less boarding and grooming facility adjacent to Fido. Many brought their dogs and learned more about the indoor canine track, while some won raffle prizes.

The North Shore Animal League helped raised awareness about adopting pets on Sunday and 10 applications for pet adoptions were received by Tavi & Friends throughout the event.
