Judith Baxt Sklarin, a resident of the Five Towns for 40 years, died on July 28 at the Meadowbrook Care Center in Freeport. She was 74.

Born on May 18, 1938, Sklarin grew up in Brooklyn and attended both Lafayette High School in Brooklyn and a high school for the performing arts in Manhattan. After school, she worked for many years as a medical assistant at various doctors’ offices in the Five Towns.

Reading and writing poetry, listening to music and attending the theater were her enjoyments, according to daughter, Stephanie Slater, who lives in Maryland. “She was very charismatic, witty and liberal-minded,” Slater said.

In addition, she was generous and kind to all she knew. “She opened her heart and home to anyone who needed help,” Slater added.

Sklarin is survived by her sister, Susan Schwartz, her daughters, Andrea Moore, Carrie Dolan and Stephanie Slater, her son-in-laws, Donald Moore, Tom Dolan and Mathew Slater, her brother-in-law, Buddy Schwartz, and her grandchildren, Sophie and Macie Slater and Zoe and Teddy Moore.

There was a graveside service held at Wellwood Cemetery in Farmingdale on July 31, where she was interred.
