A Lynbrook man was arrested on Thursday at 7:57 p.m. for leaving the scene of a fatal car accident on Merrick Road.
According to Nassau County police, a male victim was crossing Merrick Road near Blossom Heath Avenue that night, when a gray Nissan struck him. The driver then drove away from the scene, heading westbound on Merrick Road.
Witnesses gave responding officers a description of the vehicle, police said, and it was located a short time later at the In & Out Convenience Store on Mill Road in Hewlett. After an investigation, Harley Dix, 48, was placed under arrest.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to detectives. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
Dix is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a death. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
