Though there will be social distancing, masks and other safety protocols in place, the villages of Lynbrook and East Rockaway will still host their 9/11 memorial services this year.

Lynbrook’s ceremony is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m. According to the village’s website, attendees are expected to wear masks and practice social distancing.

East Rockaway’s ceremony will begin with a reading of the names of each victim with ties to East Rockaway at 4 p.m. in Memorial Park. A traditional remembrance ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.

“Reading of names will be a solemn time for reflection and prayer,” village officials said in a statement. “The village board has limited the attendees, as they must follow the social distancing guidelines which have been set by the state.”

The Lynbrook Elks Lodge has canceled its festivities amid the virus.
