Last weekend, the Merrick Chamber of Commerce celebrated the changing colors, crisp air and flavors of fall with its annual Fall Festival, where visitors enjoyed local vendors, fair rides and street eats.
The free festival has been held since 2000, rain or shine, and attracts over 10,000 attendees annually, making it one of the largest on Long Island. It offers everything from cotton candy to amusement rides to live music and pony rides, as well as special exhibits from the local fire departments.
Each year, the Kiwanis Club of Merrick attends the fair to raise money for local causes. The Bellmore-Merrick Emergency Medical Services unit and representatives of the armed forces are on hand as well, and students from the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District volunteer to help run the booths. The fair also gives Merrick businesses the opportunity to market their wares and services.
