Q: Several family members were comparing their similar residences in different parts of Nassau County. Why are the real estate taxes very different for each property?
A: In Nassau County there are 3 Towns, 2 Cities, 64 Village and 56 School Districts and also hundreds of special districts. Each has a separate budget and different tax rates. For example, the residential school tax rates in the Town of Hempstead range from a low of 427.803 to a high of 1009.741. So the same assessment/market value in different school districts might have very different taxes.
