December brings festive events to Bellmore and Merrick libraries

The four libraries of Bellmore and Merrick have many fun and festive events lined up for the holiday season.

The Charcuterie Queen is coming to the North Bellmore Public Library on Thursday, Dec. 14.  She will be giving a demonstration where participants will learn the ins and outs of how to make holiday themed cheese and charcuterie boards, such as different pairings and how to cut, style and arrange all ingredients. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room and will require a NBPL card. For more information, contact Josh Firer at jfirer@northbellmorelibrary.org.

North Bellmore will also host an event called “Meet the Artists,” where members of the Art League of Nassau County will present a gallery displaying their talents and visions. This event will take place on Saturday, Dec.16 at 2 p.m and requires a register in advance. The Bellmore Memorial Library has events of its own planned, such as the Wonka Candy Chocolate Barks event on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Students from grades 6 to 12 will learn how to make their own chocolate barks with Wonka candy. This will take place in the Community Room at 4 p.m.

They will also host a Quilted Bulb Ornament program led by Linsay Gendy on Tuesday, Dec.19.  Gendy will teach attendees how to make elegant and festive ornaments made from squares of decorative fabric and a styrofoam ball. 

No quilting experience is necessary, and the event will occur at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. The entry fee is a check of $5 made payable to Bellmore Memorial Library, and will be collected at the time of the program.

The Merrick Libraries will join in on the fun. At the North Merrick Public Library, there will be a Cooking Explorers event for holiday cookies.

Children from the ages of 3 to 5 will paint pre-baked sugar cookies and decorate them with different types of sprinkles. Registration is required, and the event will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m.

NMPL will also host their Gingerbread House Extravaganza for families with children in grades K-6 on Monday, Dec. 18.

The event will be led by librarians Janet and Lisa, where they will first read the families gingerbread themed stories before sending the families off to decorate their own gingerbread houses. Registration is required, and one house will be provided to each family, and the program will take place at 4 p.m.

The Merrick Library has events of its own, such as Eva Berger’s Winter Scene Paint Class for adults on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Berger will be giving step-by-step instructions on how to create a winter scene on canvas.

Registration is required and the event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Merrick Library will also hold their own Family Gingerbread Workshop on Monday, Dec. 18.

Families will work together to decorate their own gingerbread house, and then have some hot cocoa in the Astarita Garden.

This event is for cardholders only, and will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

All four libraries will come together on Dec. 18 and hold a Teen Movie Night at the Bellmore Playhouse Theatre. This will be a drop off event for students grades 6-12, and the teens will be watching “Wonka.”
