Newbridge Road School in North Bellmore entered a lockdown on Jan. 16.

Commissioner of Nassau County Police Patrick Ryder said there was a 911 call for a male with a gun and possible shots fired. A full and comprehensive search of the school was performed utilizing numerous police department resources.

It was determined that this was a swatting incident and the call was unfounded. The investigation is ongoing.

“All students and staff are safe and sound,” the North Bellmore School District said.

The school remained in lockout during the day, but the lockdown was lifted. Police remained on site while they completed their protocol for the incident.

Some other schools nearby entered lockout when the investigation began. When police found no weapon, those lockouts were lifted as well.
