Sacred Heart Academy students invited to science convention in Chicago

Nine Sacred Heart Academy individual behavioral science researchers and one team, which comprises of nine seniors and two juniors, received invitations to present their work alongside professional researchers at the Association of Psychological Science’s annual conference in May. Only about 50 pre-collegiate researchers have ever been asked to present original work in the 32 years that the APS has held its annual conference.

At this convention, scholars from all over the nation and the world gather to network and to share cutting edge insights. The girls will present posters and discuss their original research at the APS annual meeting, which runs from May 21-23 in Chicago. Other poster presenters typically include university undergraduates, graduate students and junior faculty. Institutions such as Stanford University, Princeton University, Columbia University, Georgetown University and the University of Notre Dame are represented at most of the conferences. Science Research Director Stephen Sullivan encouraged the girls to submit their respective projects to the convention, and suggested social, cognitive and educational psychology, along with psychology of religion and spirituality as relevant subfields.

APS President Sarah Brookhart expressed delight that Sacred Heart students would be returning to present their work once again. “Congratulations, Dr. Sullivan, on such a strong showing by your students,” Brookhart said in a news release. “They are to be commended for their outstanding contribution to the field at such a young age. I’d be interested to learn about your students who go on to pursue psychological science in college. They are truly the future of psychological science.”
