2019 Nassau Library Tour
Road trip to as many of Nassau’s public libraries as you can — including West Hempstead’s — this month. Each one is a gateway into a new community. Visit the library, then explore the attractions, restaurants, and parks nearby. Take the self-guided tour as a family, a team of friends, or go solo. In each library, there’s a unique feature to hunt for, and participants will earn prizes as they go along. Visit 45 or more and be entered to win a grand prize. Get started by picking up a map at your local library. Info: tour.nassaulibrary.org or (516) 481-6591.

Old-fashioned amusements
As summer winds down, enjoy those waning days in the spirit of the mid 19th century at Old Bethpage Village Restoration’s annual music festival, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24-25, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The historic setting features rousing tunes by the village’s brass band, with contra dancing and other activities. Rock on New Orleans-style
Groove to the sounds of the Big Easy, when the Hoodoo Loungers visit Long Island, on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 8 p.m. It’s always Mardi Gras for this lively nine-piece band, inspired by the rhythms, sounds, history and spirit of New Orleans. Their sound encompasses traditional New Orleans Jazz, Brass Band, classic R&B and funk — a blend of original music, re-arranged New Orleans classics and high energy stomp downs right out of the Gospel Church.
