Malverne schools remain persistent through trying times

Schools throughout New York state have been closed for nearly a month, but many districts such as the Malverne School District transitioned to educational programs from home.

While schools are not expected to open until April 15, district Superintendent Dr. James Hunderfund said that administrators have been in constant communication throughout the duration of school closures to plan ways in which students can continue their coursework in the coming weeks. He said that students’ principals will contact parents once plans are finalized.

The district has also continued its cleaning of all schools and facilities, and for students who rely on free and reduced lunch program, the district is working with local officials to ensure that these important meals are available.

“As you know, this continues to be an exceptionally trying time for all of us,” Hunderfund said in a letter to parents. “Thank you for your ongoing patience and support as we continue to adjust to ever-changing information regarding this health emergency and strive to protect the health and welfare of our Malverne students, staff and community.”
