A 66-year-old man was found dead in his North Massapequa home after it burned on July 10, before dawn, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Nobody but the victim, whose name has not been made public, was in the house at the time of the fire. The victim was found dead in his garage with a fatal gunshot wound, which police say appeared to be non-criminal.

According to the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office, a neighbor reported a fire at 2 The Link to the North Massapequa Fire Department at 4:37 a.m. Among the 60 fire department personnel who responded to the blaze were members of the North Massapequa, Seaford, Wantagh, North Bellmore, Bellmore, and East Meadow fire departments.

Three firefighters sustained injuries while extinguishing the blaze, which was brought under control in an hour, according to a representative of the fire marshal’s office.

One female firefighter fell through the second floor of the home and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center, where she was treated and released. The other two firefighters only had minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

The fire might have started at the front of the home, but the NCPD stated that the Homicide Squad, Arson/Bomb Squad and Nassau County Fire Marshall are all still investigating the incident.
