Robert Shemanski, a 38-year-old resident of Valley Stream, was arrested yesterday in Valley Stream and charged with threatening to kill a Florida police officer. The officer, a sergeant in the West Palm Beach Police Department, was not identified, nor was any reason given for the threat.

Shemanski, of 89 Wood Lane, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. and charged with aggravated harassment after sending a Facebook message to Hearst affiliate WESH 2 News in which he threatened to kill the sergeant. Further investigation revealed that Shemanski had been harassing the officer via telephone and social media for approximately two years prior to yesterday’s threat. According to a statement released by the department, the officer “feared for his life and the life of his family.”

Shemanski was charged with first-degree harassment and was to have been arraigned today in First District Court in Hempstead.
