Shaw Ave. faculty member, spouse in self-isolation district says

The spouse of a faculty member at Shaw Avenue Elementary School has been placed into a 14-day, self-isolation with flu-like symptoms and is awaiting coronavirus testing results District 30 Schools Superintendent Dr. Nicholas Stirling announced in a message sent to the community. Although the faculty member has not shown signs of illness, Stirling said, they too will self-isolate for 14 days. 

“The district is working closely with the Nassau County Department of Health to discuss the full extent of precautions that we should be taking,” the message read. “At this time, we have been encouraged by public health officials to monitor the situation and await results. As a precautionary measure, a deep cleaning and disinfecting of all schools will take place this evening.”

There are currently 17 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nassau County according to County Executive Laura Curran, with one confirmed in Suffolk. Statewide there are 142 cases of the new virus strain, the number of which Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he expects to rise.
