No injuries were reported when a car carrying two North High School students reportedly crashed into the Willow Road Elementary School playground Thursday morning.

According to a phone call made to parents by School District 13 Superintendent Dr. Constance Evelyn, both the driver and passenger of the car were North High School students, and although school was in session, the playground was empty at the time of the crash, which Nassau County police reported had occurred around 10:30 a.m.

The car, which appeared to be a black Nissan Altima, had hit a street sign and light pole at the corner of Shelburne and Catalpa drives before careening into the swing set at Willow Road, Evelyn reported.

Extensive cleanup and repairs for the playground will be required, she said, and the area closed off for the near future.

No criminality is suspected in the incident, a police spokesman said, however, the driver, who was not identified was issued a handful of summonses for their involvement.
