Candidates should stick to the issues (Feb. 21 - Feb. 27)

To the Editor:

There has been much talk on Facebook about someone degrading a woman. The post has now become a topic in the upcoming village election.

Was that the original intention? I don’t know, but I do know that if it wasn’t, it should have been dealt with quietly so as not to blame someone who may or may not be guilty. It should have been done respectfully, so as not to further embarrass anyone. Neither of these things happened. This appears to be a distraction to avoid talking about village issues.

Decent people want decent politicians and decent political campaigns — campaigns where the candidates talk issues, pro and con, that matter to the community. Candidates who choose to distract should not run for office.
