Wantagh H.S. teams compete in ‘Sportsnite’

In a night of sports, dances, art, organization and spirit, Black and Gold teams competed in Wantagh High School’s annual Sportsnite on March 8. Only one team could take home the trophy, however, and in the end, the Black team emerged as the evening’s winner.
“The event builds bonds among students who may not have met or interacted in school,” Diane Sales, a Sportsnite advisor, wrote in an email. “It enforces responsibility and creates an atmosphere of school spirit.”
Only Wantagh high school students may participate in the sports night that first occurred in 1956. The participants are divided into the two teams of roughly 65 to 100 students, and the event advisors pick two co-captains, who must meet criteria and previously fill out applications for the position. “The overall captains will come up with the themes, which must be approved by advisors,” Sales wrote. The Gold team chose the theme “On the Calendar,” and the Black team chose “In the Big Apple.”
