Stumping for vaccination centers in Lawrence and Elmont

With the need to inoculate a large number of people to help ensure herd immunity from the Covid-19 virus and now a variant strain, Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D-Elmont), who also represents Inwood is advocating for vaccination distribution centers at the Five Towns Community Center and Belmont Park.

“I would like to thank County Executive Curran for her efforts to ramp up Covid-19 vaccine distribution in Nassau County and opening an additional distribution center at Nassau Community College,” Solages said in a news release. “Unfortunately, throughout the state and country, we have seen problems with vaccines being allocated but not administered – and I agree that Nassau County must do all it can to ensure we are swiftly administering every available dose.”

Solages and others pushed for and got a drive-thru antibody testing site at the Community Center last year. The county, Northwell Health and New York state partnered to open Covid-19 vaccine distribution center at Nassau Community College in Uniondale on Jan. 5.

“While the new distribution center at Nassau Community College is a vital first step, I believe that additional sites are needed throughout the County so that eligible residents have easy access to vaccinations,” Solages stated. “As the county explores future sites, I respectfully request consideration of sites located in the Third Legislative District, including Belmont Park and the Five Towns Community Center. By utilizing these and other centrally located community hubs, we can streamline the delivery of this life-saving vaccine to our residents.”

As coordinator of the Long Island hub of the state’s regional vaccine network, Northwell Health officials  said they will work with county officials to establish vaccination sites across the county and established a Health Equity Task Force to help ensure the vaccine quickly reaches high-risk populations in communities faced with severe disparities in access to health care.
