The Theodore Roosevelt Council of the Boy Scouts of America is having several “Join Scouting Days” between September 21 and October 12.

Boys and girls, in grades K – 5. can join Family Packs. Their “dens” and most activities are separate for boys and girls, but all of the dens join together for pack nights, programs and award presentations.

Troops are for boys in grades 6 – 12. In February 2019, girl troops will begin recruiting.

Venturing Crews coed and are for boys and girls ages 14 through 21.

“Scouting gives kids the opportunity to build self confidence by providing them the opportunity to try and fail in a safe environment,” said Lee Nevo, Cub master of Wantagh Pack 189. “All we ask is for them to “Do Their Best” and be “Brave” in order to try new things. We prepare them for leadership as they progress and prepare to join a troop by letting them teach the younger kids the skills they’ve learned. We recognize their effort through advancement in the most fun way possible. They don’t even realize they are learning until they look back at where they started.”

Seaford Pack 581 committee chair, Miguel DaSilva, said the pivotal moments of a child’s scouting career will help form the basis of that child’s character in life.

“That’s why our Pack strives to provide special experiences that become lasting memories,” DaSilva said.  “It’s about making friends, camping out, taking hikes, racing derby cars, helping people and, most importantly, having fun.”
