Roadway projects continue in Malverne

While the coronavirus pandemic has a put a halt to several activities and businesses throughout Malverne, the village’s roadway project is still in progress.

The village board started its five-year plan to improve roads in 2016, but utility projects delayed the work. In 2018, National Grid upgraded the natural gas system in the village, and New York American Water updated over 10,300 linear feet — just under two miles — of water mains. In addition, PSEG Long Island initiated a plan to install a 7.3-mile, 138-kilovolt underground transmission line between Garden City and Lynbrook.

“When we come out of this pandemic, we cannot afford to have any disruptions to our commercial district,” said Malverne Mayor Keith Corbett. “Another disruption this year will completely detriment our businesses. I’ve pushed PSEG to get their project done so that our businesses can thrive when this is over.”
