Restaurants can apply for New York state grants

Restaurants can apply for New York state grants for up to $5,000 from the state's Department of Economic Development for help to survive through the coronavirus pandemic.

Full-service restaurants — including eating and drinking establishments, as well as eateries that transitioned to take-out-only during Covid — are eligible to apply for the grant funding. Eligible restaurants must have been in operation on or before March 1, 2019, certify that they have experienced financial hardship due to the pandemic, and agree to comply with the state’s public health policies.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has brought unique challenges to the restaurant industry and we must ensure these small businesses have the support they need to survive,” State Sen. Todd Kaminsky stated in a news release. “I am hopeful that this grant will help defray expenses for our local restaurants and encourage them to apply.”
