Peninsula Public Library in Lawrence announces upcoming virtual events

The Peninsula Public Library in Lawrence has released their virtual events schedule for August.

The events kickoff with an online media lecture on Irving Berlin hosted by theater historian John Kenrick. He will look at the life and work of Berlin, who is widely considered one of the greatest songwriters in American history. The lecuture will take place on Monday Aug. 3 at 11 a.m.

Three online Tai Chi classes will be hosted by experienced Tai Chi instructor Linda Cafiero on Tuesday Aug. 4, 11 and 18.

Esther Davidson will facilitate a discussion of the novel "The Wartime Sisters." She will be joined by the author, Lynda Cohen Loigman. In this historical novel, two estranged sisters raised in Brooklyn and each burdened with her own shocking secret, are reunited at the Springfield Armory in the early days of World War II. The discussion will take place on Aug. 4 at 3 p.m.

To mark the publication of the long-awaited final volume of Hilary Mantel's bestselling trilogy, The Mirror & The Light, Art Historian Vivian Gordon will look at Hans Holbein's portraits of the Tudor court in an online art lecture that will take place on Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. Mantel's books trace the rise of Thomas Cromwell to great power as advisor to King Henry VIII. 

Hofstra Political Science Professor Dr. David Green will hold a current event lecutre on American Politics on Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. The chat will focus on current political events, including how to interpret recent election polls
