The Kiwanettes of Oceanside held their annual fundraiser at The Links on April 15, where they honored a longtime member of the community.

Don Maresca was the man of the afternoon, a retired educator from Oceanside schools and former principal of School No. 2, he was honored for his contributions to the community. Aside from serving the school district, he also participated in many school activities and sporting events. Additionally, Maresca is a member of a handful of organizations in Oceanside such as the Kiwanis.

The Kiwanettes’ event chairwomen Tara Roth-Ramos and Janet Pearsall organized the event, which received positive feedback all around. Whereas the Kiwanis is made up of men who aim towards helping children, the Kiwanettes are women who generally give back to the seniors of the community.

“Everybody had a great time,” Pat Roth, member of the organization, told the Herald. “The food was great, the raffles were great, the company was great, the music was great, the dancing was great and the camaraderie was great. It was a wonderful afternoon!”
