The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District recently appointed Mikaela Coni as its new assistant superintendent for business following the retirement of former assistant superintendent Kate Freeman.

Coni joined the district in 2018 as the administrative assistant for business, working on all aspects of the district’s business operations. Prior to her time in Bellmore-Merrick, she worked for the Blind Brook-Rye Union Free School District as the supervisor of business services and district treasurer.

While there, Coni managed all aspects of the office’s operations and personnel, and assisted in the development, preparation and monitoring of the annual budget. She also participated in negotiations, managing the school food service program, assisting building administration with financial management and ensuring the fiscal integrity of all operations.

Prior to joining the education field, Coni served as a senior accountant for O’Connor Davies LLP, in Harrison, New York. There, she served as a lead accountant on financial statement audits for governmental agencies, including large counties, cities, towns, villages and school districts.

Coni holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Manhattan College and two master’s degrees — in education and public administration — from Pace University. She is a member of the New York Association of School Business Officials.

“It is an honor and privilege to serve as the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s assistant superintendent for business,” Coni said. “I am very excited to be a part of a great leadership team, and look forward to supporting the district and ensuring our financial plans afford our students the opportunity to receive an excellent education.”
