One person has been arrested following a gunpoint robbery that occurred near Crunch Gym in Bellmore early Thursday morning, a spokesperson for the Nassau County Police Department said.

According to the spokesperson, the subject robbed the victim at gunpoint outside 2212 Centre Ave. in Bellmore at 4 a.m., and took their cell phone, wallet and the keys to their car. The subject then fled the scene in the victim's white BMW.

Later, a NCPD patrol officer spotted the BMW heading northbound on Henry Street in Bellmore and began to follow it. The officer requested assistance, and another NCPD cruiser responded.

The second cruiser located the BMW on the Southern State Parkway near exit 25 in North Bellmore, where it appeared to have crashed into a guardrail. The responding officer also crashed into a nearby utiltity pole, but suffered non-life threatening injuries.

It is unclear how either vehicle crashed.

The subject was apprehended and taken into custody.
