Merrick teen makes care packages for health care workers

After her uncle, Eric Turk, died from the coronavirus in April, Merrick resident Gabbie Goldberg organized an effort to help comfort the health care workers at Mishkon in Boro Park, Brooklyn, where he was living. The group home provides residential, medical and therapeutic care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Last week, Gabbie, 16, a junior at John F. Kennedy High School, delivered personalized care packages to the frontline workers at Mishkon. She raised money to purchase items to fill the bags, and received donated items from local business owners, as well.

The contents of the bag included:

  • Yogi Tea bags
  • Personalized water bottles
  • Homemade lip balms (donated by Sunshine Yoga & Essential Oils)
  • Hand-sewn masks (donated by Runway Couture)
  • Wet Brushes and hair care products (donated by De La Mer Salon)
  • Various moisturizers and body care products
  • $20 gift cards to Dunkin Donuts and Amazon
  • Tote and drawstring bags with customized name tags
  • Nip-sized white wine bottles (donated by Sip N’ Say)
  • Dove chocolate bars

Gabbie’s mother, Jodi Turk-Goldberg, thanked the owners for contributing to her daughter’s fundraiser. “A big thank you to Esther Guadagno Didonna (De La Mer), Kim Towers (Runway) and Terri Cohen-Lieberman (Sunshine Yoga),” she wrote in a Facebook post.

“Thank you again to everyone who helped make this project possible,” Gabbie added.
