Longines Elegance Contest at Belmont Stakes

Posted

As the Official Timekeeper of the Belmont Stakes (as well as the Kentucky Derby and the Longines Kentucky Oaks), Longines knows a thing or two about elegance and precision timing. The legacy Swiss watchmaker’s equestrian sports timing activities began in the 1860s, when Longines first produced a watch engraved with a horse head, followed by a chronograph engraved with a horse and his jockey in the 1880s, which was widely adopted by American race enthusiasts and officials, starting in New York. Today, Longines clocks all the official race times at Belmont for the season and traditionally presents Longines timepieces to the winning jockeys, owners, and race teams of the Belmont Stakes.

In keeping with the brand’s motto that “Elegance is an Attitude”, this year, Longines will also award the Longines Prize for Elegance to the most elegant man and woman to walk the carpet on Belmont Stakes race day. With its longstanding equestrian legacy and demonstrated excellence in precision sports timing, Longines timepieces are perfectly at home on the racetrack or on the sidelines.

Just as at the Kentucky Derby and at premier equestrian events around the world, Longines will bring its much-anticipated Longines Prize for Elegance to the Belmont racetrack. In keeping with the Longines motto, “Elegance is an Attitude,” the Swiss watchmaker and Official Timekeeper of the Belmont Stakes invites the race day’s most elegantly attired attendees to compete for the coveted Longines Prize for Elegance.

The winners, chosen by a panel that includes Longines U.S. Brand President Pascal Savoy and other notable figures, will choose the most elegant attendees to receive the Prize and be presented with their own Longines timepiece. This year, the Swiss watchmaker invites both men and women to participate in the sophisticated and stylish spectacle. Longines will also present timepieces to the Belmont Stakes winning connections.
