The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory for the south shore of Nassau County on Monday as heavy winds and rain pounded Long Beach.

Rain totals will range between 1 and 3 inches, according to News 12, and parts of Long Island declared a flash flood warning.

PSEG reported at least five power outages in Long Beach and Point Lookout as of 12 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters asked residents on Facebook to be cautious of flash flooding, downed wires and power outages and suggested staying indoors if possible.

Fire Commissioner Scott Kemins said firefighters contained two electrical problems at Walgreens, 606 Long Beach Blvd., and Pier 1 Imports, 214 E. Park Ave., when the motors on the air conditioning units began smoking at around 9 a.m. Monday.

“There was just smoke, no flames,” Kemins said. “It happened in both places at the same time.”

He added that there was minor flooding during high tide on parts of Park Avenue in the morning. Other than the few power failures and several traffic light outages, Kemins said there were no major incidents.
