With the Covid-19 crisis leaving parents struggling with facing the challenges of battling work responsibilities and remote learning for children, the Friedberg JCC has offered a new “All Day at the J” program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The JCC, which has served South Shore communities for 60 years, is launching the program Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. with optional aftercare until 6 p.m. at the Oceanside campus. It will supervise children who are participating in remote learning with their home school district or private school. In the event schools must change to an all-remote model because of closure from the virus, the program will remain open.

In addition to supervised online learning and homework help, children enrolled in the initiative will be able to use all of the resources provided in the state-of-the-art community center. Breaks for snacks, art and sports are all part of the day, which is customized to meet each child’s individual school schedule. A gymnasium, playground, auditorium and outdoor spaces provide a safe, socially distanced, yet fun environment. All Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state health guidelines are strictly followed. Children are placed in small cohorts and the highest level of safety is maintained at all times.

“All Day at the J” is a part of the JCC’s before and after school programs, which have expanded to nine sites this year. Locations include Oceanside (Stay at the J at the Friedberg JCC) and programs in Baldwin, Bellmore, Island Park and Long Beach schools.
