Flickering the lights to celebrate the Baldwin class of 2020

The Baldwin community sent good wishes and congratulations to the Baldwin High School Class of 2020 on May 1.

The Baldwin School District joined all Nassau County schools in celebrating the graduates via “Light Up the Night.”

Baldwin residents were asked to take part in the event by flickering the front house lights and banging pots and pans at the front door for 20 minutes beginning at 8:20 p.m. so that Baldwin High School seniors could hear and see the support from the entire community.

Baldwinite Jonathan Mpoy, who would graduate from Steele Elementary School this year, and his mother, Beniel, banged pots and pans on the stoop to celebrate. Down the block, neighbors lit fireworks and blew air horns.

It’s yet another example of how the Baldwin community has come together during the coronavirus pandemic to give one another much-needed support, school officials said.
