A woman from Elmont was arrested after she allegedly lied about having the coronavirus, and assaulted police officers when they responded to the scene.

According to Nassau County police, a 19-year-old female reported to the police on April 8 at 8:50 p.m. that Jasmin Santana, 38, of Elmont, said she had Covid-19 and was coughing on spitting on doors throughout her home on Troy Street. When officers responded, however, they said, they found Santana intoxicated, and she began acting irate when they tried to escort her to an ambulance for treatment.

Santana allegedly then became combative, physically fighting with and spitting at the officers repeatedly as they tried to bring her to a local hospital, authorities said. An officer was even reportedly kicked in the face, slitting his lip open, causing substantial pain, bleeding, swelling and a severe headache with neck pain.

Santana was then placed under arrest and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. The injured officer was also treated at the hospital, and was released.

Santana was charged with second-degree assault and obstructing governmental administration. She was scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead on April 9.

She is being represented by  the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which does not comment on cases.
