Davison Avenue School’s day of play in Malverne

Posted

Davison Avenue Intermediate School in the Malverne Union Free School District was one of several schools in the country to take part in national Global School Play Day on Feb. 6.

Students and teachers traded in their digital devices and toys that required Wi-Fi for “low-tech,” classic games such as Monopoly, Connect Four, Uno, Jenga, Scrabble, Checkers and more. The campaign was started in support of unstructured play during school, which is something Davison Avenue has embraced with its Mission Explore initiative.

Mission Explore is a kindergarten through fifth-grade initiative that provides students with mindful, purposeful, structured and supervised play sessions throughout the nine-period school day. Benefits include improved socialization and collaboration skills, encouraging curiosity and creating better focus and performance in the classroom.
