Baseball League's season gets under way

Posted

The Valley Stream Baseball League began its 69th season on April 30. Opening ceremonies were held at Firemen’s Field, and then players hit the diamond for their first games of the season.

There are more than 400 players on 33 teams this year. Factoring in the Hawks and Colts travel teams, League President Bob Inzerillo said the total increases to about 500 kids. “We had the best registration we ever had,” he said.

Tony Kateridge sung the National Anthem while Mayor Ed Fare threw out the ceremonial first pitch. All teams will play about 15 games through early July, then playoffs begin.
