“Angelica Balitsos, crowned Miss Wantagh 2013, had a vision for her role as Miss Wantagh” began Ella Stevens, Miss Wantagh Pageant Coordinator. “In front of a panel of judges this past summer, Angelica passionately made her case for helping the less fortunate,” she added. Her resolve to help the less fortunate will be on display on Saturday November 30, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Wantagh Firehouse on Park Avenue.

“As Miss Wantagh, I would like to bring the Mary Brennan event to Wantagh,’ she told the judges. “This event is held at my church monthly where we make sandwiches on Friday night and the next day the food is brought to the Mary Brennan Inn in Hempstead…where a huge feast is held to make the less fortunate feel fortunate,” she stated. Now, as Miss Wantagh, her intention is to donate sandwiches with fruit and bottled water to the Long Beach Martin Luther King Center, where she was actively involved in helping families after Superstorm Sandy last year.

“Commissioner Jay Cohen at the Wantagh Firehouse was kind and generous enough to allow me to use their kitchen in the preparation of these sandwiches; he will also be supervising the event,” stated Angelica. With the help of her Miss Wantagh Court and school friends, Angelica will be preparing 250 sandwiches that she intends on delivering to the Center at 2 p.m. Myrnissa Stone, Executive Director and Board Member of the Center, invited Miss Wantagh and her Court (as well as Angelica’s helpful friends) to hand out the sandwiches.

In anticipating the event, Angelica summed it up by saying “by taking a little step towards helping people in need, we can put the biggest smile on ones’ faces. That smile warms my heart knowing that I was able to make someone’s life a little easier.”
