St. Agnes Cathedral School staged Mary Poppins Jr. on April 11, 12 and 13, as hundreds packed the school’s auditorium over the three nights to enjoy the classic.

The St. Agnes drama program presented the play, based on the stories of P.L. Travers, one of the most beloved Disney movies of all time and the Broadway musical that played for more than 2,500 performances, garnering a number of Olivier and Tony Award nominations.

Led by director Kim Dufrenoy and music director Laura Morr, students brought to life the story of the troubled Banks family in England in 1910. Their new nanny, Mary Poppins, played by Summer Hubert, and her friend Bert (Jake Truncale) help teach the family to value each other again through common sense and a bit of magic.

Followed by classics like “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” the students sang the finale, “Anything Can Happen,” leaving the audience with a message that summarizes the play.
