The excitement of South Side High School’s Spirit Week came to an end on Oct. 28 with the annual Homecoming Parade. After weeks of hard work, getting their floats ready, and participating in various spirit week competitions, the class of 2018 took first place.

This year’s Spirit Week theme was “Cultural Celebrations.” The seniors impressed judges with their Chinese New Year float, featuring a mannequin dressed in traditional Chinese robes, with a picture of assistant principal Noreen Dockery’s face taped on its head. Seniors also earned points for their wall mural, and for winning the tug of war competition earlier in the week.

The sophomores won the lip-sync competition with a crowd-pleasing medley of “Wannabe,” by the Spice Girls, “Bye Bye Bye” by ’N Sync, and “I Want You Back” by Michael Jackson. The freshmen claimed first place in the pie eating contest.
